With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Zenaida Ningas, lovingly known as Zeny, who left this world on March 4, 2026, in Spring, Texas. Born on October 11, 1946, in Manila, Philippines, Zenaida graced the lives of all who knew her with her boundless kindness and welcoming spirit. She was a beacon of warmth, always making others feel at ease with her gentle presence.
Zeny's life was one of dedication and compassion, marked by her remarkable 38-year career as a Registered Nurse at the Groton Regency. Her passion for caring for others was rooted in her early achievements, having earned her Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from the University of Santo Tomas in 1970. Throughout her career, she exemplified the very best of the nursing profession, touching countless lives with her empathy and expertise.
Beyond her professional life, Zenaida's heart was full of love for family, friendship, and cherished traditions. She found joy in the simple and meaningful moments—playing bingo and mahjong, attending Filipino parties, gathering with family, and participating in prayer groups. Her infectious enthusiasm for Family Feud brought light and laughter to many, a testament to her vibrant spirit. A collector of elephants in all their forms, Zeny surrounded herself with these gentle giants, a reflection of her own steadfast and nurturing nature. Her favorite color was green, a color that mirrored the freshness and vitality she brought into every room she entered.
Zenaida's love for food was as rich and diverse as her heritage. Pancit, halo-halo, and buchi were among her favorite dishes, each bite evoking memories of home and celebration. These meals often accompanied joyful family gatherings, where her presence was a source of comfort and happiness.
Her final battle was courageous yet serene. Diagnosed with advanced pancreatic cholangiocarcinoma complicated by sepsis in December 2025, Zeny faced her illness with quiet strength. Though hospitalized twice after a stent placement, she remained free from pain, blessed with dignity and peace in her final days.
Zenaida Ningas leaves behind a loving family who will carry her memory in their hearts: her devoted husband, Felix Ningas; her daughter, Elizabeth Alina, and son-in-law, Steven Tavares; her son, Alex Ningas, and daughter-in-law, Vothy Ningas; her cherished grandchildren, Benjamin and Lilianna Ningas; her stepdaughter, Leila Alina; and her siblings, Lourdes Geslani, Adeluisa Sipin, Bing Santos, and Buen Santos. She is also mourned by her sisters-in-law, Merlinda Santos, Febie Herndon, and Tessie Albus.
Zeny was preceded in death by her first husband, Sabino Alina, and her beloved parents, Buenaventura and Anita Santos.
In remembering Zenaida, we celebrate a life defined by love, kindness, and generosity. Her spirit will continue to inspire all who knew her, reminding us to face life's challenges with grace and to treasure every moment with those we hold dear. Though she has passed from our sight, the imprint of her gentle soul remains everlasting, like the timeless elephants she so dearly loved.
