Monica Pettway

Monica Pettway, beloved daughter, sister, mother, and loving grandmother, passed from this life on June 27, 2026, at the age of 56. She was born on January 25, 1970, in Detroit, Michigan, to Shirley Ann Pettway and Bozy Pettway. She was the eldest daughter and grew up in Detroit alongside her sisters, Lisa Pettway, Kimberly Pettway, and Stephanie Pettway.

Throughout her life, Monica became a woman whose strength, resilience, and unwavering love for her family defined who she was. Monica later made Houston, Texas, her home, where she dedicated many years of her life to working in manufacturing and assembly. Monica was known for her incredible work ethic, determination, and willingness to help whenever she could. Even through life’s greatest challenges, she remained strong. Many never knew what she was going through because she carried herself with grace and chose to encourage others instead of focusing on her own struggles.

Family was everything to Monica. She was a devoted mother to her children, Danyale Barnett and Darius Pettway, and grandmother to her grandchildren, Danay Thompson, Robert Thompson, Terron Payne, Donovan Pettway, and Dean Pettway, they were among her greatest joys. She loved taking them out, creating special memories, and seeing them smile.

Monica had a joyful spirit that filled every room. She loved family gatherings, birthday celebrations, skating, traveling, and especially going on cruises. She had a gift for lifting people’s spirits with her humor. She told jokes, laughed easily, and always had her way of making others feel seen and loved. She offered encouragement without judgment, listened with compassion, and if she had been through something herself, she would share it openly to help. Her wisdom and strength touched so many.

Monica was truly one of a kind - a beautiful, strong-willed, and compassionate woman whose love, laughter, kindness and resilience left a lasting mark on everyone blessed to know her. Her legacy of love will continue to live on through her children, grand- children, family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched.
