Michael Lynn Cousins, 67, of Nederland, passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 13, 2026.
Mike was born on March 18, 1958, to Jo Anna and Melvin Francis Cousins, and was a lifelong resident of Nederland. He was a proud graduate of Nederland High School, Class of 1976. Mike worked during high school and shortly thereafter as a bagger at Nederland Market Basket before going on to build a long and dedicated career as a process operator. He began working at Gulf refinery in Port Arthur in 1979 where he became one of very few employees at the time that worked and qualified on all chemical units. He was known for his strong work ethic and reliability. After 37 years at the same refinery, Mike retired from what was then CPChem in 2016.
Once retired, he found peace and expression through drawing and painting. Music was another quiet joy in his life, and he could be found strumming a guitar at times. Just as memorable was his sense of humor, Mike was always sure to make you laugh with his hilarious stories drawn from his own personal experiences. He had plenty of those to share and at times would begin laughing before he was even able to finish the story.
Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Jo Anna.
He is survived by his wife, Tiffany; daughter, Cherie Cousins (Eddie Parks) of Nederland; sons, Adam Cousins (Lindsay) of Port Neches, Charlie Cousins (Jessica) of Orange, and Andrew Cousins of Beaumont; stepchildren, Blake Graham (Amber Willis) of Port Neches and Fallon Graham-Esquivel (Daniel Trevino) of Nederland; father, Melvin Cousins of Nederland; sister, Tami Landry (Darrell) of Lumberton and niece, Jenna Breaux (Brad) of Kingwood. Pawpaw Mike leaves behind 12 grandchildren, Casen, Gracie, William, Audrey, Elias, Maksim, Beckett, Aniston, Jack, Luca, Kate, and Baker along with other family members and friends who will cherish his memory.
A small family gathering will be held on Sunday, January 18. A celebration of life will take place on a later date.
Your love, prayers, and support are appreciated during this time. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking loved ones to donate to the Dream Center of Southeast Texas, an organization that Dad took interest in and respected.
