Mattie Mae Evans, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, friend, and caregiver, was born on February 5, 1964, in Wharton, Texas, to Gladys Mae Green Evans and William McKinley Evans Sr. She was raised in El Campo, Texas, where she graduated from El Campo High School. From an early age, Mattie attended Allen Chapel and carried with her a deep love for family, children, and helping others throughout her life.

Mattie will be remembered for her nurturing spirit, generosity, and unwavering love for those around her. She had a special gift for making people feel cared for and was always willing to help anyone in need. Family and friends meant everything to her. She enjoyed watching horror movies, traveling, attending family/friend functions, cooking, and, most of all, spending time with the people she loved.

Mattie's life was dedicated to loving and caring for children. In 1989, she moved to Houston, Texas, where she opened and operated her own licensed daycare until 1994. As her career continued to grow, she remained committed to learning and furthering her education, earning certifications and completing continuing education related to childcare. From 1995 to 2001, Mattie worked as a lead teacher at Children's World. She later began her career with Alief Special Transportation in October 2001 until February of 2024. She remained dedicated to her work and the children she served working at Kids Paradise until August 2026.

On August 4, 2026, Mattie Mae Evans peacefully commenced her journey, leaving behind a legacy of love, compassion, strength, and countless cherished memories.

Mattie was preceded in death by her parents, Gladys Mae Green Evans and William McKinley Evans Sr., and her brother, Norris Leonard Evans.

She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Otesia Evans, Harry Cunningham, Chalmette Martin, Donnie Martin, and Stepson Donald Martin Jr. ; her siblings, Verna Evans, Hazel Evans, Willie Evans, and William Evans Jr. ; her grandchildren, including Korin Phillips(Caleb Phillips), Milaya Guidry, Shanteria Wilson, Jonathan Luckett. ; Niece, Lashaunda Evans, Nephew Norris Evans Jr., and Roderick Holloway; as well as a great-grandchild, extended family members, and dear friends.

She also leaves behind her former husband, Donald Martin Sr., and countless others whose lives she touched with her love and kindness.

Mattie Mae Evans will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her. Her memory will live on through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family, friends, and every person she cared for throughout her life.
