In a world that feels just a little dimmer, we gather to remember John Allen Bertrand, a man whose spirited journey began on September 27, 1948, in Port Arthur, Texas. After a life filled with adventure and love, John answered the call to eternity on October 19, 2025, surrounded by memories and the echoes of laughter that marked his existence.
John devoted many days of his life to the oil and gas industry at Dupont, where his expertise was met with respect and admiration. His career extended further to a metal fabrication company, where he applied both skill and camaraderie to forge lasting relationships alongside the tangible products of his labor. His hands crafted not only metals but strong bonds, connecting him to a myriad of colleagues and friends.
A veteran of the US Army, John served his country from 1968 to 1971. The discipline and brotherhood he experienced during those years shaped the man he would later become. Though God was ready to welcome him home, our hearts remain heavy with the loss of someone who brought such joy and resilience to those around him.
John’s legacy emanates through the stories shared by his beloved daughter, Melissa Booth, and her husband, James Booth. The family tree he planted reached new heights with grandsons Daniel Weldon and Justin Weldon, along with their wives, Ashley and Stephanie, who were fortunate to bask in the warmth of his affection. Each moment spent together created ripples of laughter, adventure, and memories to cherish. The giggles of his great-grandchildren, Lilly and Leonard Weldon, are a testament to a loving lineage, vibrant with shared experiences and love.
John’s spirit was woven into the fabric of a life spent in the embrace of nature. He reveled in the thrill of camping, finding solace in the great outdoors, and the delight of cooking over an open fire. Water presented him with a sanctuary, a place to be free, whether fishing or simply feeling the breeze against his skin. His heart raced with excitement as he immersed himself in stories – both telling and listening – recounting adventures that became treasures for family gatherings. His passion for fast motorcycles, cars, and boats fueled his zest for life, as the roar of engines matched the intensity of his spirit.
As we gather to reflect on John’s remarkable journey, we lovingly acknowledge the parents who laid the foundation for his life, Preston Bertrand and Ruby Godeau, now reunited with him in peace.
