Obituary

James Preston Thornton, lovingly known to all as Jim, was born on August 10, 1940, in Palestine, Texas. He departed from this world on January 28, 2026, with the comfort of his own home enveloping him, leaving behind a legacy woven with love, laughter, and cherished memories.

Jim was a devoted husband to Annie Thornton. Jim was a proud father to his sons, Quentin Thornton and Marshall Thornton, and his beloved daughter, Daphne Scott (Thornton). He welcomed the hearts of his stepsons, Lee Baird, Troy Bradley, and Kenneth Bradley, into his family with open arms, embracing them with the kindness that defined his spirit.

The loss of his daughter, Brenda Thornton, and son, Johnathan Thornton, deeply etched itself into Jim's heart.

Jim's family tree extended beautifully, with several grandchildren who illuminated his life: Toby Roberts, Lacey Roberts, Caleb Thornton, Chance Thornton, Trey Thornton, Khaydyn Scott, Hunter Thornton, Mackenzie Thornton, Khrystian Scott, Leah Thornton & Colby Thornton.  His great-grandchildren, Eden Thornton and Nolan Thornton added to his joy.

A cherished brother-in-law, Ben Hudson, and his dear sister-in-law, Harvena McDaniel, became a significant part of his life’s tapestry, enhancing the warmth of familial bonds that he so valued.                                  As we remember Jim, let us hold close the stories and moments shared—in those memories, he continues to thrive, forever etched in our hearts. His legacy of love will carry on through the generations he has touched. He will be deeply missed, but the love he shared will remain as a guiding light for all his family and friends.
