Evelyn Sabrina Grant, a remarkable soul whose essence brightened the lives of all who had the privilege to know her, passed away on January 5, 2026, in Spring, Texas. Born on January 14, 1961, in the vibrant borough of Brooklyn, New York, Evelyn was the cherished daughter of Charles E. Brown and Mae Helen Brown, both of whom have preceded her in death.

Evelyn's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with love, resilience, and passion. Her journey saw her transition from the bustling streets of Brooklyn to, West Germany, Spain, Italy, France, South America, several different states, and settling to creating a warm and loving home in Spring, Texas. She was the devoted wife of Joseph Grant, whose steadfast love was evident in every aspect of their shared life. Together, they cultivated a family grounded in love and understanding, providing unwavering support to their children.

In addition to her beloved husband, Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Jowanza Grant, who carries forward the legacy of her mother’s kindness and strength. Evelyn's warm heart and nurturing spirit extended to her eight grandchildren, who were the light of her life and the joy in her days. Each moment shared with them was filled with laughter, learning, and immeasurable love, leaving an indelible mark on their hearts.

Evelyn's passing leaves a void that echoes with the memories of her kindness, her laughter, and her unwavering spirit. She was preceded in death by her son, Joseph Tyrone Grant, and her daughter, Jytoia Monique Grant, whose precious lives were intertwined with her own in a profound and eternal bond.

Evelyn Sabrina (nee) Brown Grant was born on January 14, 1961, to her late parents Charles Brown and Mae (nee) Hickman Brown. Sabrina was the oldest and first born of six siblings. She was affectionately called Brina by her family and those that grew up with her.

She was born in Cumberland Hospital in Bklyn, New York. As a child she attended P.S. 133 and the family church Bethel Baptist. She was on the youth usher board.

In her second year of junior high school Nathan Hale in Brooklyn. The family moved from downtown (577 Warren Street) Brooklyn to Staten Island, NY.

She attended Anning S. Prall, most famously known as I.S. 27. It was there that she met the young boy Joseph Grant, known as (big Joe) because of his height, who she said would marry at 13.

As she grew in the West Brighton Projects, 780 Henderson Avenue, apt 1D. She created a sisterhood of girlfriends that lasted a lifetime.

She was involved in the West Brighton Softball league, where she played outfielder and helped celebrate 3 championships, along with her sisterhood of friends; they did dance steps and perform in the neighborhood as well as nursing homes. She participated in skits for Young Gifted and Black productions.

As a child Sabrina and her siblings were taken to church by their mom. Bethel Deliverance Church, under the leadership of Pastor Connelly. which she sang on the youth choir. Her mother later joined Pentecostal Faith Church of God under the leadership of Bishop James O. Sargeant.

She attended Susan E. Wagner high school, which she recognized her gift in fashion. She loved clothes and hair. She made her first white mink coat; and that is when she attended Barbizon Beauty School.

As Sabrina predicted at the age of 13, Joseph Grant proposed marriage and new chapter in their life began.

Sabrina Brown married Joseph Grant on December 6th, 1978, under Rev Arthur Philipps. This union would grow and last until the day God called her home. In this union the couple added three additions two daughters and one son to the family. Jowanza Renee, Joseph Tyrone and Jytoia Monique,

Sabrina has now become a military wife. It was there in Killeen Texas that she began to learn and develop as a soldier wife.During her employment she would be called Evelyn by her first name. But no matter what name you called her she was always the same person.

Along with raising a family, she attended Penn Foster online college classes in the nursing field. Sabrina and Joe, who she affectionately called mushroom, loved music they will do the hustle as well as enjoy basketball games and travel together.

She had worked as an EMT, which she later decided was not for her. But she was determined to stay in the nursing field.

Sabrina and her family were blessed to live in different states as well as different countries.

The family longest military stayed was in Vilseck Germany. In Germany she learnt some of the language, the money exchange and developing more in her nursing career. Sabrina was citizen employee under military status which gave her certain rankings.

When they returned to State side, Sabrina joined the Smithsonian Institute. At the Smithsonian Institute she became a traveling nurse. She went as far as Panama to give vaccine to those in need.

Sabrina was very family oriented; she assisted her younger sister Tanisha Edmonds and her mother Mae Brown during their illnesses.

She was a caretaker to her brother-in-law Reginald Grant.

Her hobbies were needle point, jig saw puzzles, crocheting, knitting and shopping and enjoying her doggies.

In her later years Sabrina began to study the Bible and fellowshipping with Mormons For Jesus Christ.

It was there that she began to do online studies under BYU Pathway Worldwide spiritual based university.

Sabrina was studying to become a Christian therapist; she believed that this was her calling to help those to know the Lord and His Salvation.

Sabrina believes in education and following one’s dreams even if detours happen along the way.

On January 5, 2026, Evelyn Sabrina Brown Grant departed this earth with her daughter by her side.

She leaves to mourn her beloved life partner her husband Joseph Grant III, her daughter Jowanza Renee’ Grant, Preceded in death, her son Joseph Tyrone Grant and her daughter Jytoia Monique Grant.

Her grandchildren, Jytoia Burton, Nicole Burton and Joshua Burton. Mariessa, Cedrick, (Teresa Manning) Victoria, Jackson, Tyson and her daughter in law Lucinda Grant.

Her siblings, Venetta Brown (Staten Island, NY,) Charles E. Brown (Greensboro, North Carolina) Derek A. Brown, (Prince George County, Maryland). Her two sisters-in-law, JoannaGrant and Jeanne Grant from South Carolina.

Her aunt Carolyn Joseph is from North Carolina.

Preceded in death her parents Mae and Charles Brown, her siblings, Tawana Brown and Tanisha Edmonds. Her brother-in-law Reginald Grant.
