Debra Ann
Wright
March 15, 1955 – April 28, 2026
Debra Ann Wright, 71, of Houston, Texas, passed away on April 28, 2026. She was born on March 15, 1955, in Hobbs, New Mexico, to Doris Nell Green and Clarence Smith, both of whom preceded her in death. Debra spent much of her childhood and early teenage years in Denver, Colorado, where she lived with her siblings Sharlot Smith, Sonja Palmer, and twins Toni and Thomas Palmer. She also remained closely connected throughout her life with her siblings, Sherry Harrison and Clarence Smith Jr., who reside in California.
In the early 1970s, Debra made Houston, Texas, her home. She welcomed her first daughter, Cameishea Roy, in May of 1972. On April 27, 1981, she married Mathis Charles Wright, who preceded her in death on July 20, 2017. Together, they welcomed their second daughter, Sheree Wright. Debra was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. She leaves behind her loving daughters, Cameishea Roy and Sheree Wright; her cherished grandson, Bronze Russell, whom she proudly shared she had a hand in naming; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and former work colleagues who will continue to honor her memory.
She dedicated many years of service to the City of Houston, where she worked at Bush Intercontinental Airport from 1997 until her retirement in 2017. Debra was also a breast cancer survivor, a testament to her strength and resilience. Known for her love of shopping and decorating her home, Debra carried herself with a no-nonsense attitude, yet her presence brought joy and comfort to those around her. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
