Obituary

Charles Fredrick Russell, known to many as Chuck, was born on July 28, 1950, in Houston and passed away on April 14, 2026, in Mount Enterprise, Rusk County, Texas. His journey through life was marked by difficult decisions and the relentless pursuit of perseverance, defining a man steadfast in his convictions and remarkably strong-willed.

Chuck’s career as a Program Manager for O'Reily Auto Parts was more than a job; it was a testament to his dedication and unyielding work ethic. Yet, beneath the professional exterior was a man whose honesty and straightforwardness shaped every interaction and relationship he held dear. He was honest and encouraging qualities that helped him navigate the countless obstacles life threw his way.

His personality was a blend of humor and strength, traits that made him a pillar of support and a source of laughter for his family and friends alike. Chuck’s passions ran deeply into the outdoors, reflecting a love of hunting, fishing, collecting knives, and firearms. These interests were as much a respite from life’s challenges as they were expressions of who he was: focused, precise, and determined.

Nothing, however, meant more to Chuck than spending time and holidays with his family. These moments stood as quiet victories amid life's trials, precious memories that now serve as a lasting legacy. His proudest accomplishment was not measured by accolades or possessions, but by his ability to overcome adversity, rising each time to face what came next with courage and resilience.

He is survived by his spouse, Carol Russell; daughter Charlie Russell; stepdaughter Marinel Russell; stepdaughter Nickie Hale; stepdaughter Ashley Hale; brothers Howard “Red” Russell and his wife Barbara Sue Russell, and Henry “Hank” James Russell with his wife Tina; half-brother Allen Westphal; half-sister Sudie Westphal; and five grandchildren who carry forward his memory and spirit.

Chuck’s life was also marked by profound loss: the passing of his father, Charles Howard Russell, mother Elsie Estes Russell Westphal, daughter Cheryl Russell Slamka, brother Jackie Russell, and sister Diana Lyn Theroux. Each loss a heavy chapter, yet Chuck met them all armed with the essence of his indomitable will.

In reflecting on Chuck’s life, there is no question that he faced hard life choices with a blend of humor, honesty, and iron resolve. He leaves behind a story not of ease, but of enduring grit, marked by his unwavering commitment to those he loved and the values he lived by. His presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy of strength will remain an enduring beacon for all who knew him.
