Carsten Dean Peterson July 8, 1952 – October 29 ,2024
Celebration of Life December 7th, 2024
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Carsten, beloved husband of Salli Babbitt, brothers, Jeff and Bruce, son Erik, and stepson Jet Lewis, two grandchildren and many cousins,in-laws, and dear friends . He was a friend to all whose life was a celebration of creativity, nature, and adventure. His journey was one of many talents: ballet performer, carpenter, project manager, set designer, inventor, master naturalist, surfer and photographer. Carsten embraced each with a passion that left an indelible mark on everyone he met.
In his early years as a ballet performer Carsten graced the stage with elegance and artistry, captivating audiences with his dedication and expressive movement. He performed in many ballet companies in Houston, Dallas, Omaha, NE, and Hartford, CN . He was the principal performer in many ballets and contemporary dances.
The ocean was his second home, where he thrived as an experienced surfer, riding waves with grace and a sense of peace that only the sea could bring. He had an equally deep love for capturing beauty through a camera lens, using photography to preserve the fleeting moments he found in nature and weather.
When we moved down to the waters’ edge, he was drawn to the beauty surrounding him, becoming a certified master naturalist in the Bay area, channeling his curiosity and respect for the natural world. He became a bird expert.
In his fabulous workshop, he shaped raw materials into beautiful, lasting creations bringing innovative ideas to life and purpose such as: the Nohamma Surf Rack, Knockdown tables, Royal Reading chair, to name a few. Always finding time to make my canvas substrates.
Carsten will be dearly missed by all who had the honor of knowing him. His memory lives on in his art, his photographs, his craftmanship, and the countless lives he touched. I know this to be true by all your loving notes, texts, emails, and phone calls.
