Bernard Shaw

October 24, 1978 — May 12, 2026

Bernard "Chef Mac" Shaw, a man whose vibrant spirit & multi-faceted talents enriched the lives of all who knew him, passed away on May 12, 2026, in Houston, Texas. Born on October 24, 1978, in St. Paul Ramsey, Minnesota, Bernard was a beacon of creativity, warmth, and joy — a true renaissance soul whose legacy spans culinary arts, music, photography, production and direction, writing, and entrepreneurship.

Bernard was affectionately known by many names — Chef Mac, a maestro in the kitchen renowned for his delicious meals; a writer whose words painted vivid landscapes of human experience; a music enthusiast, photographer and producer-director who captured and crafted ideas with a keen eye; and an entrepreneur who breathed life into all his ventures with passion and inventiveness. Beyond these accomplishments, he was the beloved life of every gathering, a man impeccably dressed & marked by his favorite sayings, "Monkey A$$" and "Goofy," a few of many expressions capturing his lighthearted approach to life.

He embraced his roles as fiancé, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend with unmatched devotion. For siblings - Timmiko, Jimmy Baker, Prechezz, Willie Culberson, Aleena, Chris Haywood, Nakesha, Jasmine, O'Ryan, Aria, Taylon, Ajaa, Jhani, Shamar, Level, Sylvester, Theresa, Sharee, Maxine, Cameron, Mari, and Antoine - Bernard's presence was the adhesive that always made any gathering extra special. Among them, the memory of Ayana, their sibling who passed on before them - the brightest star still shining down upon them - now feels the loving embrace of Bernard in a blessed reunion.

Family was at the heart of Bernard's life. He cherished the loving support of his mother, Linda "Niese", who survives him, and his father, Bernard "Short Lunch" Rudolph Walker, now deceased. He leaves behind a line of devoted children who carry his legacy forward: Quadre Shaw (wife Toddia); Jabreh Shaw (wife Chamaria); Abria, Iyanna, Signe, Bernard Jr., and Shoni, who all share in the profound loss of their sibling, Sevyn, who also preceded Bernard in death and now reunited. And we can't forget the next generation, his grandchildren - Junior, Artaise, Jahmir, Legynd, Poet, & Jurnee - who will forever hold the light of their grandfather’s love and spirit.

Bernard's passing leaves a profound void for all who knew and loved him. Yet his poetry, culinary artistry, productions, and entrepreneurial spirit continue to inspire. His life was a celebration of creativity, love, and laughter — a beautiful legacy of creative brilliance, familial devotion, and infectious joy that will forever warm the hearts of his family and friends. He will be forever loved and remembered... until we meet again.

The community and family will gather to honor Bernard’s life and celebrate the indelible mark he left on the world with a special remembrance and funeral service on June 7th from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM, at Houston Memorial Chapel, located at 14503 Bammel North Houston Road, Suite 405, Houston, TX 77014, with visitation for family and friends beginning at 2:00 PM.
