Audrey Louise (Nichols) Smith, 88, passed away peacefully Saturday morning, April 26, 2025, at
Windsor Quail Valley Post-Acute Healthcare Center in Missouri City, Texas. Audrey was born to
George and Izelia Nichols in Swansea, Massachusetts, on September 22, 1936.
Audrey married Hugh (Pete) Smith on December 8, 1965, at Memorial Lutheran Church in
Houston, Texas. Initially Pete and Audrey lived and worked in the Galleria area of Houston. In
1973, they made their home in Sugar Land where Audrey lived in the same house until 2023
when dementia and other health problems kept Audrey from living on her own. Pete passed
away on April 13, 2006. Audrey worked as a bookkeeper. After her retirement, she volunteered
in the gift shop at Methodist Hospital in Sugar Land. In November of 2023, she entered Windsor
Quail Valley Center.
Audrey loved her Lord and Savior and enjoyed listening to Christian music. Her nieces and
nephews remember her as kind and loving. They were always happy to be with her because she
spoiled them. Audrey loved children but didn’t have any of her own. She also loved and cared
for numerous cats and dogs. Audrey enjoyed family gatherings and always offered to her bring
her specialty, broccoli casserole.
Audrey was stubborn, a “spitfire” determined to do things her way. That determination got her
through knee and hip replacements and life itself. Walking with a cane or walker, she could get
herself everywhere. Her smile was infectious, and her joy radiated to everyone around her.
We thank the staff at Windsor for the care they offered to Audrey. Windsor became her home.
A special thank you to nurse Trinh Bui and Chaplain Calvin Harris from Allstar Hospice for the
time that you gave to Audrey.
Audrey is survived by her sisters-in-law, Carol Nazarian and Carolyn (Ted) Kell, her nieces and
nephews, and lots of cousins and friends. She will be missed.
